Default What's happened to Pre-Searing?

I've been playing since release (and before), so I haven't been around pre-searing for awhile. However, the other day I got bored so decided to try out a new Mesmer. I was on the mission that sets you from Barradins Estate to Fort Ranik, and because this is a large journey, I decided to stop into Ashford Abbey and get someone to go with.

So, I pop in, and say "Looking for someone travelling to Fort Ranik".

I then get 5 PM's saying "How much will you pay?"

At first I was like "Huh?" and got replies saying "How much will you pay for a taxi to Ranik, n00b."

I replied to them saying "Umm, I don't want a 'taxi', but rather a campanion." and got no further replies.

I tried a new message "Looking for a companion travelling to Fort Ranik - Not a taxi" and noone replied. I ended up going through two districts before getting bored and going off on my own.

Taxis? Is this crazy - you can't even get a travelling compnaion these days without paying?

GW has gone down hill since release

People do stuff like that post searing as well...only they advertise by spamming the channel. The sad thing is, one must realize, they only exist because people do pay for these "taxis"

People will spam that all the time in Beacon's Perch because people want to get to Droknar's Forge so bad.

I always thought things like this were a scam.

Why do you need a companion to get to Fort Ranik? You can run the whole way without doing battle as a Warrior. Elementalists have a fairly easy time killing everything on the way. Lonely? Tame a pet.

I thik I've been lucky for the most part stumbling on people who actually just wanted to play without trying to get money out of it. Normally I end up giving them any items I get which I can't use anyway if they're fun to play with.

I just didn't know that people actually did pay for 'taxi's', where's the fun in that?

What's happened in Pre-Searing is that a *lot* of veterans have secondary characters there which they use to scam noobs. Taxi services, "WTB black dye", selling armor and customized weapons etc.

People who prey on noobs don't tend to be particularly nice.

my pet's conversational skills suck in a very serious way. Just last night, we were trying to run the D'Allessio mission and my moa bird was like:
"you slug, that's the wrong way for the bonus!"
so I was like:
"No I'm tellin you man, it's right here."
then the moa bird was all like, "That's it, I've had it you friggin noob! I'm goin"

and he dropped. My own pet dropped at near the end of the mission and left me alone... bloody hell...

Henchmen are looking better and better with each passing day.

I logged on today in Hells Precipice and saw Monks on chat offering there services for 1000 gold and more. That's ridiculous, really. My wife and I completed the mission with henchmen, you don't need to pay an arrogant monk money to do any mission. If there's no monks or other party members willing to do the mission for the mere price of generosity, then grab a henchman and give it a whirl. They don't expect payment, don't bitch and complain about which direction you go and never say a word if they die.

I've seen monks in FoW and UW saying they can be hired for 10,000 gold. It just simply amazes me. Thank God I'm in a guild that can handle our own and don't have to deal with these asshats.

Some people just don't realize that monks are part of the group and not "the group". A lot of the times you can handle things with 1 monk if you're group is set up right. Protections, wards, blind, hexes, enchantments... all help more than people realize.

Ya ain't all the monkeys. Deflate your heads a bit and come back down from that cloud your riding on.

Too few people with level heads.

Gaming by it's very nature attracts the self-gratifying at all costs crowd. No escaping it.

People yelling away in a perpetuating fit of idiocy in spatial chat when the trade chat is specifically for that. So much so that in a town like LA or Ascalon it's impossible to have a decent conversation unless youre in a group with spatial turned off.

People offering their services to 'run' your character for an XYZ amount of money. When anyone who plays 4-6 hrs a day can get to ascention in a week by playing casually quite easily.

Getting spammed in whispers: "Will u join my guild?" just because i'm not in one. I mean, what retards. Don't they know how moronic they come across ?

Too few of the people out there like to just hang out and help when they can.

On the topic of monks, it bites both ways, that's even sadder.

When I was on my first character, a Mesmer, I had the most terrible time just finding groups. People would rather pick someone who badly played another class over someone who knew his inside out.Even in the desert and the jungles, where the abundence of spam-casting aggros would make any sane gamer wish for a mesmer with 120+ backfire, takers were few and far between. Got the Mes ascended somehow and then got stuck at Dragon's Lair.

Decided to start a Monk and got him to level 20 so I could at least help people if i couldnt get much further in the game myself. Now I have people telling me that i am a "n00ber" because I don't farm with smiting but just stay with pure healing/elem earth protection. The people who i run quests with and heal.

Everyone isnt an idiot. I've met groups of fine fine folk. Fun to adventure with, wise to learn from and receptive to be taught as far as the subtleties of the game we play goes.

Wish there were more of the same sometimes.

I was in Fort Ranik Post-Searing yesterday playing with my Mo/R and trying to find a group.

I see a guy on All advertising 'will escort you through any mission in under 10 minutes for 1k!"

So I thought, man, what a deal.

I told him to meet me in District 1 of Hells Principe to get my other character through and he never responded

Oh well, I've already beaten the game anyways.

Heh,I complete the second last mission with a warrior-only group(plus two henchmen), all it takes is brain-storming and coordination~~~

I refuse to ever charge for my monk's service.

After all, isn't it role playing... and are not monks supposed to be enlightened? Not Mercs? grin.

But seriously, I will never charge for any of my character's services. Ii think that is simply heinous.

Agreed...In Hell's Precipice I saw a monk charging 20k! My second character is a healing monk and I don't charge (tips are nice though )

Lately a lot of groups, even in the Shiverpeak missions, have been insisting on taking at least one (preferably two) primary monks and warriors with them, even to the point of not wanting to enter the mission before these conditions are met.
This usually seems to be a good indicator of the skill level of the persons in question, only being able to adapt to external influences by keeping internal influences as rigid as possible. Funnily enough most of these groups tend to fail miserably due to Wamo-Rushing syndrome and Religion-induced delusions of superiority.

After getting into one of these groups a few days ago, and having at least 3 deaths at the first encounter, warriors running off while everyone was recuperating, and monks blaming everyone but themselves, I quit after another 3 deaths at the second bend, and invited the first five people LFG. This turned out to be all primary Elementalists, Mesmers and Necro's, with no Warrior or Monk secondary but myself (El/Mo). After laughing a bit about our "Squishy party", we slowly and methodically started the mission, and lost no-one at the first encounter (Minotaur charge). From there on we proceeded to end kicking ass and taking names in 3 missions and quests inbetween. Best group I ever had.

So if people kick you from group because you're no monk or warrior, be glad they did, and form your own group. You'll be laughing after they'll arrive a few hours and a few plat later after having to resort to taxi services.

well the advantage is, when I get my monk leveled just a little bit more, I wont have a problem finding a group..since I will not charge for services (but I will admit that if someone offers to pay I wont turn em down as long as I am going that direction anyway, just wont ask, lol)

Yeah, it's easy to find a group as a monk if you don't charge, even if you're protection

Ok I hate to ask this because I'm not exactley a noob, BUT, from Beacons Pearch where is Droknar's Forge? Oh and I am NOT looking for a taxi (teehee) Just a direction or a companion for travleing. Playing a Fire elemental/Monk, more fire than monk, but I have rez and some minor healing.
